I’ve been using the MERLOT Content Builder for years. I don’t want to lose anything I’ve created. What happens to all my pages and sites?
All of your Content Builder pages and sites will remain live! Everything you previously-built will be listed in the Main Menu of the new Content Builder under the heading My Legacy Content Builder Sites. Nothing will be deleted unless you specifically delete it. Any of your pages or sites that have been made public will remain public, and those that are private will remain private. You will have the option to import your legacy content into the new Content Builder, view it or delete it. It’s all up to you!
How is this version of Content Builder different than the previous version?
The new Content Builder features a Design Center, where you can create and edit the content, structure, and styles of your website directly on the site itself, and you can set site styles globally. Furthermore, sites built with the new Content Builder are accessible to assistive technology and responsive to any screen size or device.
Can I still edit a page or site built with Legacy Content Builder?
Yes you can! However, you will first need to import that page or site into the new Content Builder. Even after the import, the existing page or site will still exist in the Legacy section.
Can I still add images, documents, or videos?
You can add multiple images to a site as well as embedded videos and even documents. We have also added an option to add a banner image to the top of your site.
If I added images or documents to a page or site in the previous version of Content Builder, do I have to add them again?
In most cases, no. Every now and then there may be an image that was just too stubborn to transfer over, but most images should make it. Keep in mind that everything that imports may require a little reformatting.
Will the websites I build in the new Content Builder be accessible?
As long as you follow some general guidelines, any site you build in the new Content Builder should be accessible to assistive technology.
Will the websites I build in the new Content Builder be responsive on phones and tablets?
Yes! Any site built with the new Content Builder will scale down to any screen size or device.
Previously, I could send a copy of my site to other MERLOT members or share the URL. Will I still be able to do that?
Yep! From the new Main Menu, for any new or imported site, you can send a copy to another member or share the site’s unique URL (once it’s made public). Furthermore, an entirely new feature of this Content Builder is Collaboration – allowing two or more members to work on the same site!
I used to use Content Builder to work on projects with colleagues. Unfortunately sending a copy back and forth was cumbersome and created multiple copies of the same site in my account. Have you improved that option?
We have definitely improved that functionality! The new feature Collaborate allows you, as the owner, to assign multiple MERLOT members to work on the same site. Each person essentially “checks out” the site, works on it and then exits the Content Builder to allow for other collaborators to access the site.
From the new Main Menu, for any new or imported site, you can download a copy of the site as a Common Cartridge. Click the More options and select Download Common Cartridge.
Why did you rebuild Content Builder? I thought it was good the way it was.
Thanks, we liked it too! But it was beginning to show its age. And we felt like it was missing some pretty important features, like accessibility, scalability, collaboration and the ability to set global styles. We think this version of Content Builder is easier to use and will produce nicer-looking websites!
